Fox Sports-Former UFC competitor Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver on Monday was sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole in 36 years after being convicted on 29 separate charges in connection with an assault committed against his ex-girlfriend Christy Mackinday and her friend Corey Thomas in 2014.

Koppenhaver was found guilty on 29 out of 34 charges in a trial that took place in March in Nevada.

The former UFC fighter would be first eligible for parole in 2053, when he would be 71 years old.

I remember this story making the rounds a couple of years ago. I didn’t think much of it at first to be honest. An off the rails MMA fighter with jealousy issues and a porn star (tremendous irony) living together in Las Vegas. The couple had a history of domestic abuse, so this sort of thing seemed par for the course considering their volatile history. Then there was the photo of the aftermath. That is when I realized the severity of what actually happened.

Brutal. As you can see. Mack looks like she was literally beat up within a inch of her life. Mack’s injuries included 10 broken bones, broken teeth, broken ribs and a ruptured liver.

On the night of the assault. Mack was sleeping in bed with former reality star Corey Thomas when Koppenhaver (War Machine) arrived to Mack’s residence. Upon discovering the couple in bed, Koppenhaver began assaulting Thomas, leaving him with a bone fracture. He was eventually able to escape.

Koppenhaver soon turned his anger towards Mack. After beating her, he began searching through her social media profiles and discovering things he did not approve of. With every disapproval he struck Mack in the face. Koppenhaver then threatened to rape and kill Mack with a knife from the kitchen. He later returned to the kitchen to attain a sharper knife to “finish the job”. At that point Mack was able to escape out one of the back doors to the residence.

Thankfully the this guy is going to be behind bars for a very long time.
