Alex Jones is a popular conspiracy theorist and founder of the YouTube channel Infowars. This week Jones is at the forefront of controversy once again. The uproar began when the network giant, NBC announced Megyn Kelly would be conducting a profile on the internet talk show host. Upon the announcement, NBC received swift backlash from around the country. So much so, that lawyers representing the families of Sandy Hook victims threatened to file a lawsuit against the network. The family members are stating that by airing the interview, NBC is accepting Jones’s stance on Sandy Hook as plausible. Jones believes that the Sandy Hook Massacre did take place, however he also believes that actors were hired to portray parents of the slain children to push an anti-gun narrative.

As I mentioned earlier this is not the first time controversy has surrounded Jones. The Infowars host has gone on record saying the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were falsely blamed on Iraq and that the attack was actually conducted by criminals within our own government. He believes the government was also the behind the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995. This obviously has brought a great deal of attention to the Infowars brand. But it seems the more controversial Jones becomes, the more his popularity expands. His following is also massive. Infowars averages nearly 30 million global visits a month, with the largest demographic being middle aged males.

Earlier this year, the media had a heyday with Jones’s divorce from his former wife Kim Jones. Megyn Kelly is even on record in the private audio stating that more prominent media personalities would not be exposed in the same way about something so personal as Jones was during his divorce. In the divorce proceedings which involved a heated custody battle, Jones stated that he plays a character designed to provide entertainment.

Jones secretly recorded his interactions with Kelly because he was skeptical about the way he would be portrayed by NBC. Apparently he and Kelly sat down for four hours in Jones’s home state of Texas to capture the full interview. Jones recorded the entire interview and he claims that NBC is going to edit the interview in a way to portray him in a negative light. Something in which Kelly promised would not happen and she is on the leaked recording stating.

Infowars video including leaked audio:

In my opinion NBC completely botched this entire thing. Why Alex Jones in the first place? Secondly, the Sandy Hook families are right. By giving Jones the national spotlight, they are legitimizing his claims. Of which I have no idea if there is any merit behind them. NBC also proves they are completely incompetent by thinking Jones would not try to record or document the interview in some way. This guy makes his living off of claims that the mainstream media is full of lies. Regardless, NBC is standing behind Kelly and is preparing to air the interview.

Statement from NBC:

“Despite Alex Jones’ efforts to distract from and ultimately prevent the airing of our report, we remain committed to giving viewers context and insight into a controversial and polarizing figure, how he relates to the president of the United States and influences others, and to getting this serious story right. Tune in Sunday.”
